Senior Project
For my senior project I made a music program for the highschoolers at KCS. My inspiration for my project was the lack of performing arts at our school and my internship. I decided to do this project because a lot of students at this school are very talented and need to have some sort of outlet for their creativity that isn't just visual arts.
The goals I wanted to accomplish for this project were pretty simple: I wanted to make a syllabus, find a teacher, set up the curriculum and make a few videos. The process however wasn't as simple. I tried to recruit numerous teachers and all gave me partial feedback but were never fully onboard, until I got Mrs. Evans. She answered my email almost immediately and we got to work the next day. She already had a class set of ukuleles in her class but wanted the kids to have more. She transformed my program from just a simple ukulele class to a “Jam session” sort of deal. In the end we created a pretty solid syllabus, made a curriculum we are happy with and made a program for next year's high schoolers.
The 21at century skills I accomplished in this project were my communication skills, self-directional skills and my information skills. I worked on my communication skills by sending out all of those emails. I worked on my self-directional skills by making an entire course and curriculum with 0 experience. Finally, I worked on my information skills because I had to research how a music class is formed and what we needed to tackle.
Now that my project is complete we have a program for our future high school students, a resource for the luau and a program that I am proud of. I would like to thank Mrs. Evans for helping me out through the challenge that was making this class. I hope she is as proud of it as I am.
